Wilhelm Levison (1876-1947) was a German historian from Duesseldorf, Germany. His family was originally from Siegburg, Germany. He studied History and Classical Philology at the Universities of Bonn and Berlin and then started to work for the publication series Monumenta Germaniae Historica under Bruno Kusch (1857-1940). From 1899 until 1920 Wilhelm Levison was on the staff of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica . From 1903 he taught at the University of Bonn, from 1920 to 1935 as Ordinarius für mittelalterliche und neuere Geshichte und geschichtliche Hilfswissenschaften. In 1938 Levison, who was Jewish and who had received an honorary Durham D. Litt. in 1931, was offered an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Durham.
